Development of Regional Solid Waste Management Facilities

We provide technical and financial assistance in the development of Regional Solid Waste Management Facilities (RSWMF) in all the 93 Urban Local Bodies across all 14 districts in Kerala. Currently, there are Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) facilities that serve multiple local bodies that facilitate regional-level disposal of Municipal Solid Waste. But to a larger extent, in the early stages of project implementation, more RSWMFs will be required to strengthen solid waste management in the State.

We offer

• Financial assistance for development of RSWM facilities
• Technical assistance for the maintenance of RSWM facilities
• Development and maintenance of processing and recycling facilities
• Development and maintenance of construction and demolition (C&D) waste management facilities
• Integrated system for solid waste disposal at regional level
• Construction of processing and recycling facilities, regional sanitary landfills at close proximity to the source of origin of waste
• Closure and remediation of existing waste dumpsites on evaluation

Likewise, regional processing and recycling facilities will be planned and developed based on the land availability, technical and financial feasibility and waste generation profile of participating ULBs. Based on the options envisaged in the SWM Plan, ULBs or Project Implementation Units (PIUs) or group of ULBs shall initiate setting up regional treatment facilities. Under the project, such facilities over a medium term (concession period of 15 to 20 years) depending upon the waste volume projections can be proposed.
